When I say that this oil rig is big, I mean it’s BIG; we’re talking about a whole 150 feet taller than the Sears Tower in Chicago big!
This marvel of human engineering is actually an oil rig that was build and installed unlike any other before it, and luckily the installation and transport were recorded for the world to see.
Back in 1988 this oil rig was heading out to the Gulf of Mexico already fully built; that means no divers would be needed for any part of the installation whatsoever, it was all done on land beforehand in one MASSIVE piece. It’s crazy to see just how precise they had to be when moving it out to sea, take a look for yourself!
