Rip currents are the leading cause of rescues by lifeguards at beaches. Rips are complex, can change shape and location quickly, and can be difficult to spot if you don't know what to look for.
This video by Surf Life Saving Australia shows us how to spot a rip current.
It is also important to remember what to do if you get caught in a rip current. Don't fight it! You'll never beat the power of the ocean. Let it take you out to sea, swim perpendicular to the current and then back to shore.
