This Sculpture Is Impressive, But When I Looked Closer My Jaw Hit The Floor

Have you ever made an origami crane - or a paper airplane? Remember how hard that was?

Artist Calvin Nicholls has been working with paper as his primary medium for 25 years, and in that time, he's taking it to unimaginable places.

This particular series is appropriately titled, "Paper Zoo."

Calvin Nicholls

He starts by observing real-life animals and their movements. He makes numerous sketches that he later uses as a reference.

He then cuts up thousands of tiny pieces of paper using X-ACTO knives, scalpels, and scissors and pastes them together to form each animal.

The texture he is able to achieve with this technique is astonishing!
