Although, getting into a freezing cold car is unpleasant, heating up your car is actually damaging your engine! Because cars made in the last 30 years have been manufactured with sensors that regulate the fuel injection system, your car automatically knows how to mix fuel and air on cold mornings.
Therefore, what happens when you “heat up your car”, is that an excess amount of fuel mixes in, causing damage to the engine! Why does this happen? Because excess fuel prevents the appropriate amount of oil from reaching important parts of the engine. According to Stephan Ciatti, a former drag racer, the best way to heat up your car is to drive it! Who knew? I certainly didn’t, and I won’t be idling the car any more on cold mornings. No one needs to be spending unnecessary money on car damage!
